When you think of burgers, you probably think of grilling, but that’s not the only way to cook a juicy, mouthwatering burger. Broiling burgers in the oven is easy and delicious. A broiler uses top-down heat at high temperatures, providing a nice char on the outside of the burger and perfect doneness on the inside. So, when you can’t make it outside to grill, you have everything you need to cook a perfect burger in the comfort of your home.

How to Cook Burgers with a Broiler
Follow these steps for a juicy and delicious broiled burger.
1. Thaw Burgers
Omaha Steaks gourmet burgers are flash-frozen and individually packaged for maximum freshness and convenience. Keep your freezer stocked and enjoy a juicy burger any time the craving strikes. Plan ahead and place burgers in the refrigerator to thaw overnight, or quick-thaw by submerging vacuum-sealed burgers in cold water for 20-30 minutes until thawed.
Can I Broil Frozen Burgers?
We do not recommend broiling frozen burgers. For best results, thaw burgers completely before broiling.
2. Season Burgers
Pat burgers dry with a paper towel. Lightly oil and season both sides of the burger liberally, using approximately one teaspoon of seasoning per burger. Omaha Steaks Seasoning, with a perfect blend of garlic, onion, and savory spices, is our preferred burger seasoning. Optionally, season with your favorite dry rub or keep it simple with coarse sea salt and pepper.
Place seasoned burgers on a broiler pan or baking sheet, leaving 1 inch between portions. A broiler pan works best when broiling burgers and will provide a grill-like experience. If you broil on a baking sheet, ensure it has a lip to contain any juices from leaking into the oven.
3. Broil Burgers on High to Desired Doneness
Preheat your broiler to high and place oven rack 3 inches from broiler element. Broil burgers 5-6 minutes per side for well-done. Adjust cooking time for your desired doneness and monitor the internal temperature of the burger to avoid overcooking. Remove burgers from the oven at 5° below your desired final temperature.
How Do I Know When Burgers are Done?
Use a high-quality meat thermometer to measure the internal temperature of the burger to determine doneness. The USDA recommends that ground beef be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F for maximum food safety, resulting in a well-done burger with no pink in the center. Cook to your desired doneness using the chart below.
Burger Doneness Temperature Guide

- Rare: 115-130°F
- Medium-rare: 130-140°F

4. Rest, Add Toppings, and Serve!

Our burgers are so flavorful and juicy they don’t need toppings or sauces, but let your personal preferences and creativity be your guide. Any way you serve it up, it’s guaranteed to be delicious.
