There are two ways to thaw shrimp: refrigerator thawing or the cold-water method. Remove shrimp from the bag and place them in a strainer with a plate underneath. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Once thawed, rinse well and drain. For faster thawing, remove shrimp from the bag and place in a large bowl of cold water for approximately 10-20 minutes or until thawed. Make sure to use shrimp within 24 hours of thawing.

How to Make a Bloody Mary Shrimp Cocktail Sauce

This sauce is easy to prepare and can be whipped up in under 20 minutes. Each one of the ingredients in this recipe adds loads of unique flavor. After mixing all the ingredients together, to enhance the delicious flavor, place your sauce in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes. Serve shrimp over ice with the shrimp cocktail sauce on the side and garnish with lemon wedges and celery heart leaves.

  • 1.5 lbs. Jumbo Cooked Shrimp thawed
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 3/4 cup horseradish
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. vodka
  • 1 tsp. lemon zest
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. each celery salt and pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. hot pepper sauce


  • In bowl, stir together ketchup, horseradish, chili sauce, vodka, lemon zest, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, pepper and hot pepper sauce. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  • Serve shrimp with cocktail sauce for dipping.
  • Tip: Garnish with lemon wedges and celery heart leaves.
