How to Steam Shrimp
Shrimp is such a versatile protein-rich option, that is fast and easy to cook! Steam shrimp in a flash with these four simple steps.
1.Thaw Shrimp
To prepare shrimp for cooking, they need to be completely thawed. To thaw, remove product from original packaging, place in a resealable bag, and thaw in refrigerator for at least 6-7 hours. To thaw in water, remove product from original packaging, place in a resealable bag, then submerge bag in cold water for 30-45 minutes. Once thawed, consume within 1-2 days.
2. Season Shrimp
Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel. Then season our Omaha Steaks Signature Seafood Seasoning or your favorite seasoning blend. Not a seasoning expert? When in doubt a dash of salt, pepper, and garlic is always a safe bet.
3. Boil Water
Bring two-thirds to half a pot of water to a rapid boil. If you’ve got a steamer basket, now’s the time to pull it out. If not, don’t worry, you can use a colander or mesh strainer.
4. Steam Shrimp
Once the water is boiling, place the steaming vessel above the water and add the shrimp. It’s important that the shrimp are above the water and should not be touching the surface or in any way submerged. Steam your shrimp for 5-6 minutes, tossing halfway to ensure even cooking. Fully cooked shrimp will turn opaque in color and have an internal temperature of 145°F.
How to Serve Steamed Shrimp
Serve your steamed shrimp hot or chilled. Create a simple meal by adding your favorite vegetable to the steamer alongside the shrimp. Spice up your next party appetizers by serving steamed shrimp with a cocktail sauce or use the leftovers as a high-protein salad topper!
