Good News About Beef!
Almost daily, we hear advice on what we should or should not eat to stay healthy. The good news is that beef is beneficial for a varied, well-balanced diet. In fact, leading health authorities like the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture advocate that lean meat can and should be part of a well-balanced diet.
Here are the Facts: 3 ounces of cooked Top Sirloin contains 160 calories. Compare that to 3 ounces of roasted chicken breast, without skin, which contains 140 calories.
On average, a cooked 3-ounce serving of Triple-Trimmed Filet Mignon contains 7 grams of total fat, of which less than half (2.8 grams) is saturated fat. The same amount of roasted chicken breast, skin off, contains 3.3 grams of total fat, of which 0.67 grams are saturated fat.
3 ounces of well-trimmed, cooked lean New York Strip (from about 4 ounces of raw New York Strip) contains 75 milligrams of cholesterol the same as 3 ounces of roasted chicken breast with the skin removed.
