Who: Omaha Steaks, America’s Original Butcher, founded in 1917, is an Omaha, Nebraska-based, fifth generation, family-owned company
What: Omaha Steaks this week is donating 8,000 premium-quality top sirloin steaks to Mercy Chefs’ mobile kitchens and professional chefs who will provide meals to go to victims, volunteers and first responders impacted by Hurricane Ida in Louisiana. Shelf-stable beef jerky will be donated to meet the needs of volunteers.
Mercy Chefs will use Celebration Church, 2001 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana as their operations base. The location will serve as a central hub for meals to go throughout Jefferson, St. Charles, and St. John the Baptist parishes. The Mercy Chefs team was pre-staging two mobile kitchens in the area in advance of the storm making landfall and will be fully operational soon.
In an effort to maximize the impact of the truck heading to Louisiana, Omaha Steaks is reaching out to local partners to secure other donations that would meet the needs of those impacted.
When: On Wednesday, September 1, the Omaha Steaks warehouse will ready the donation of pallets of steaks to be delivered for the donation. Todd Simon, Omaha Steaks fifth-generation family owner will be available for an interview.
Where: Omaha Steaks plant, 9203 F Street, Omaha, NE
“Many times, food donations to disaster relief efforts occur after the disaster has happened. Ensuring food security for impacted families means being prepared before a disaster strikes. That’s why we made this commitment to Mercy Chefs in June to prepare for hurricane season to be at the ready with tens of thousands of servings of high-quality, premium protein steaks as Mercy Chefs needs them. This is part of the activation of that commitment,” said Todd Simon, Omaha Steaks fifth-generation family owner.
“I simply don’t have adequate words to describe the appreciation we have to you all for this gift,” said Mercy Chefs Director William “Bill” Bunce. “Nor the ability to describe the look of amazement and thanks that we see in the eyes of those whom we serve.”
