(Omaha, Neb., May 23, 2023) – Omaha Steaks announced today it will make a nearly $400,000 donation of proteins and gourmet foods to Food Bank for the Heartland, a partner food bank of the Feeding America® network. The donation includes a variety of proteins including steaks, poultry, pork, seafood, gourmet sides, and desserts totaling over 14,000 pounds.
On May 23, Omaha Steaks will deliver an assortment of proteins and gourmet foods valued at nearly $400,000 to Food Bank for the Heartland. In a time of great need for our neighbors facing hunger, proteins are highly desirable at local food banks like Food Bank for the Heartland. Food banks typically receive nonperishable, shelf-stable foods, leaving out a crucial part of a balanced diet – protein. Unfortunately, because of the high cost, and availability, proteins and other foods aren’t donated as frequently. Omaha Steaks remains unwavering in its commitment to providing quality protein and food to people in need.
“At Omaha Steaks, we understand there’s a growing need for quality proteins in the fight against food insecurity. One of our core giving pillars is supporting our communities by donating quality protein that may not otherwise be available,” said Todd Simon, fifth-generation family owner, Omaha Steaks. “With rising costs at the grocery store, a lot of families are struggling to make ends meet and we feel it’s more important than ever to lend a helping hand. We are committed to providing high-quality food to families in need.”
“Every county in the U.S. is home to people facing hunger, and that includes every county in Nebraska. Donations of high-quality proteins are essential in the charitable food experience. We are so grateful to Omaha Steaks for their generous donation,” said Dru Montri, Feeding America’s Vice President of Agri Food Engagement.
“The rising cost of food critically impacts neighbors in need,” said Brian Barks, President and CEO at Food Bank for the Heartland. “We are grateful to Omaha Steaks for their commitment to helping in the fight against hunger by donating nutritious protein and other foods to individuals and families across the 93 counties we serve. It’s needed now more than ever.”
