(Omaha, Neb., June 15, 2021) – Omaha Steaks, America’s Original Butcher, announced today a donation of 6,250 pounds of premium-quality top sirloin steaks, totaling 20,000 portions, to disaster relief charity Mercy Chefs and 6,000 packages of shelf-stable steak snacks to Feeding America®, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

Omaha Steaks will have the steaks readily available for Mercy Chefs’ mobile kitchens and professional chefs to provide restaurant-quality meals to victims, volunteers and first responders in national emergencies and natural disasters. Feeding America included the steak snacks in pre-packed disaster relief boxes that are staged throughout their nationwide network of food banks to distribute quickly in the event of a disaster.

“At Omaha Steaks, serving others is at the very core of who we are, from serving our customers to serving our communities,” said Todd Simon, fifth-generation family owner, Omaha Steaks. “Many times, food donations to disaster relief efforts occur after the disaster has happened. Ensuring food security for impacted families means being prepared before a disaster strikes. Omaha Steaks is helping our partners prepare for hurricane season with tens of thousands of servings of high-quality, premium protein and steak snacks.”

Chef Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs Founder and CEO comments, “At Mercy Chefs, we believe amazing things happen over a shared meal. With this donation, we'll be able to make over 20,000 high-quality, hot meals with an incredible, elevated product. This premium-quality top sirloin steak will be a delight for our chefs to work with, and a real blessing to the folks we serve that have just lost everything due to a natural disaster."

“When disaster strikes, Feeding America member food banks are on the ground ready to provide food assistance and emergency supplies. We are grateful to Omaha Steaks for their generous donation and for helping our neighbors when they need it most,” said Patrick Crawford, Managing Director of Disaster Services at Feeding America.
