MEDIA ALERT: Dec. 12, 2024

Who & What: Omaha Steaks is donating 17,256 meals, including high-quality proteins, sides, and desserts to Food Bank for the Heartland this season. The donation is part of a regular and ongoing partnership with Feeding American and Food Bank for the Heartland to give to neighbors in need throughout the year frequently.

When: This week, Omaha Steaks is making its 6th donation of proteins and food to Food Bank of the Heartland, bringing its total donation for the year to 42,635 pounds, 35,530 meals, and an estimated $710,995 in food.

Where: Food Bank for the Heartland, 10525 J St, Omaha, NE

Why: Food Bank for the Heartland is facing the most sustained hunger crisis in its 40+ year history, with 1 in 8 in Nebraska and western Iowa struggling to afford their next meal. As a local food company, Omaha Steaks has prioritized giving high-quality protein and food to neighbors in need.

Food banks typically receive nonperishable, shelf-stable foods, leaving out a crucial part of a balanced diet – protein. Protein-rich foods play an important role in our fight against hunger. It is more filling than fats and carbs, increases muscle strength, promotes bone health, boosts metabolism, and provides many other dietary benefits. Unfortunately, the high-cost and perishable nature of protein means it is donated less frequently.

Quote: “Omaha Steaks is delivering millions of holiday packages to fortunate recipients across the country this month,” said Nate Rempe, President and CEO of Omaha Steaks. “We’re granted the privilege to both help our customers give amazing gifts and to offer a great workplace to thousands in the Omaha community. Our success and philanthropic culture drive our desire to share with those in need. Sending a gift of Omaha Steaks is a heartfelt gesture that shows love and care for the recipient. We want our neighbors facing food insecurity this holiday season to experience the joy of being cared for and to have the opportunity to prepare special holiday meals for their families.”
