(Omaha, Neb., Sept. 21, 2023) – To reinforce its commitment to fight hunger, Omaha Steaks is adding nearly $345,000 of protein and gourmet foods to its donation to Food Bank for the Heartland, a Feeding America® partner, during Hunger Action month, to bring the company’s food donations in 2023 to nearly $745,000. The donation includes a variety of proteins including steaks, poultry, pork, seafood, gourmet sides, and desserts totaling nearly 18,000 pounds.
On September 21, Omaha Steaks will deliver an assortment of proteins and gourmet foods valued at nearly $345,000 to Food Bank for the Heartland as part of their commitment to support Hunger Action Month, an annual nationwide month of action to spread awareness and inspire everyone to join the movement to end hunger. Everyone needs nutritious food to thrive, and in every community in America, people are working hard to provide for themselves and their families. Yet 34 million people (1 in 10), including more than 9 million children (1 in 8), experience food insecurity in the U.S.
In a time of great need for our neighbors facing hunger, proteins are highly desirable at local food banks like Food Bank for the Heartland. Food banks typically receive nonperishable, shelf-stable foods, leaving out a crucial part of a balanced diet – protein. Because of the high cost, and availability, proteins and other foods aren’t donated as frequently. Omaha Steaks remains unwavering in its commitment to providing quality protein and food to people in need during Hunger Action Month and beyond.
“As a family-owned food company, we believe in doing our part to create access to nutritious foods, including quality proteins, to help our community members facing hunger with the food they need to thrive,” said Todd Simon, fifth-generation family owner, Omaha Steaks. “Feeding America and Food Bank for the Heartland are vital community partners to distribute food through their food bank, school, and nonprofit network.”
“Every county in the U.S. is home to people facing hunger, and that includes every county in Nebraska. Donations of high-quality proteins are essential in the charitable food experience. We are so grateful to Omaha Steaks for their generous donation,” said Dru Montri, Feeding America’s Vice President of Agri Food Engagement.
“This generous donation could not come at a better time,” said Brian Barks, President and CEO at Food Bank for the Heartland. “The Food Bank is serving 4x the number of households compared to 2018. This donation will make a lasting impact on Heartland families making unthinkable decisions—as the cost of everyday essentials remains at elevated levels. We are beyond grateful to Omaha Steaks for their ongoing support in the fight against hunger.”
