(OMAHA, Neb., Nov. 5, 2024) – Omaha Steaks is donating 6,500 meals to Food Bank of Lincoln, a partner food bank of the Feeding America® network, to aid in the fight against food insecurity this Holiday season. The donation includes beef, pork, chicken, sides, and desserts, equating approximately 7,801 pounds of food.

“The Food Bank of Lincoln is extremely thankful for this product donation from Omaha Steaks valued at more than $168,000. In our 16-county service area, 1 in 7 of our neighbors—including 1 in 5 children—is food insecure,” said Michaella Kumke, Food Bank of Lincoln President and CEO. “From building and repairing muscles, skin and bones to supporting the body’s natural ability to ward off illness and infection, access to quality protein is highly important. When neighbors are facing financial hardship, nutritious food can sometimes seem like a luxury, although it’s incredibly important. This donation allows us to put high-quality product into our neighbors’ hands.”

In a 2024 study by Feeding America, hunger rates have increased across the nation, and the Heartland is not immune. Every county in Nebraska and western Iowa saw an increase in food insecurity rates, compared to last year’s report. Nearly 238,670 individuals are now faced with not knowing how they’ll afford their next meal. Food insecurity rates increased by more than 38% for individuals, and a staggering 56% for children. That means that 1 in 8 people are now facing hunger, with 1 in 5 being children.

Food Bank of Lincoln serves 16 counties in Southeast Nebraska. Within those 9,200 square miles, an estimated 64,510 people are food insecure, including 20,320 children under the age of 18. This means 1 in 7 neighbors—and 1 in 5 children—may not have reliable and consistent access to enough food to live active, healthy lives.

“At Omaha Steaks, not only do we work tirelessly to create nationwide awareness about those affected by food insecurity, but we are also committed to continually being part of the solution,” said Nate Rempe, Omaha Steaks President and CEO. “Today’s donation of 7,801 pounds of high-quality proteins, including chicken, pork, and beef to the Food Bank of Lincoln will provide thousands of meals to children, seniors, and families right here in our community.”
