The podcast centers on the “Magic 11” behavioral hacks that can help leaders transform into effective CEOs, no matter where they start on the organizational chart today. Through monthly episodes, Rempe and Reiss will talk with other industry-leading CEOs, breaking down what it takes to command a room, a career, and maybe even a company.

The eleventh “Brain of Command” episode features Virgil Mill, President of Aflac, exploring hack #11 of the Magic 11 hacks: developing a cultural myth radar.

“To find opportunity is to detect myths that come as a function of being embedded in the culture. I think it’s really an important temperament to develop in your culture to always challenge,” says Rempe. “That’s why I tell people coming into my business newly that the first six months are the most value you deliver to the business because your cultural myth radar is on high alert. You aren’t affected by the institutional language.”

“It doesn’t matter what you say. It’s what is actually happening. That’s how you dispel any myth that may be out there,” says Mill. “Culture is something you know because you can feel it, and remember, how people feel is what leaves an impression on them, not what you say. Our culture is being demonstrated through behaviors we’ve outlined, and if they aren’t being followed, it cannot be tolerated. Our principles are not negotiable. That’s how you help to dispel anything myths that are out there about your organization of the culture itself.”
